My Dream Bedroom: The Room I Actually Want to Sleep In

I know vision boards work. I also know I've put off actually making one for myself forever, because I'm one of those people where if I set a goal and don't reach it, that's more disappointing than never setting the goal at all. But then you never get anywhere close to the thing you want either... So consider this me getting out of my own comfort zone!

My sleep post was about surviving the nights. This one's about the room I actually want to be sleeping in. Hopefully it will inspire some dream bedroom ideas of your own!

Why My Room Looks the Way It Does
Here's some background: I've lost all my stuff more than once, most recently in hurricanes Milton and Helene. I was living in St. Pete, my house flooded, and we lost everything. So a lot of what's in my room now got collected in a pretty haphazard way.
Mixed in with that are some genuinely special pieces passed down from family, including from my grandfather, who was an interior decorator in Atlanta with really cool taste (a lot of Asian and classic pieces). I'll show you a couple of those.
It's cozy in here! I actually like that part. It just doesn't give me the warm fuzzies I want it to yet.

What I Already Have (and Love)
A 19th century crystal cut-glass dish that's currently holding all the seashells I've collected. I'm dying to get the 5-wick Hotel Lobby candle to set on top of it.
My favorite thing in the room right now is a pair of antique lamps, a woman and a man, with the most incredible detail. They desperately need a "lamp doctor," one is quite wobbly and the other is genuinely hanging on by a thread. If that doesn't work, I'd swap them for these gorgeous Visual Comfort lamps!
A mahogany Georgian style dresser, inherited, that could use a little buffing up. And a Duncan Phyfe style dining chair with a rose inlay and its original 1940s upholstery, it's a great small spot to sit and put your shoes on. There's a whole TV corner I haven't tackled yet, that one's earning its own part two.
I love my Hooker Furniture upholstered bed frame, it's sturdy and really nice quality. I just want more color in here, everything's feeling a little drab.
I have the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress and really like it, and I'm already a Quince bamboo sheets devotee.

Dream Bedroom Ideas
My actual dream bed is this Pepper Home blue velvet bed frame. It's so beautiful and it would bring in exactly the color this room is missing.
The Bedding Upgrade
I'm a warm sleeper, so while I love my Brooklyn Bedding mattress, I'd love to try their ThermoBalance Elite for the extra cooling. Brooklyn Bedding is such a good in-between, not the most expensive mattress out there, but not a flimsy foam-in-a-box either.
I keep two sets of sheets so wash day is easy, and my second set isn't Quince yet, which I genuinely dread putting on after getting used to the bamboo sheets. A second Quince bamboo set is high on the list.
I'm a huge fan of all-white bedding, it's clean, beautiful, and so much easier to stain-treat than colored bedding (a trick I learned running a luxury Airbnb). I had a Quince waffle duvet at that property and never got one for myself, I think it'd be so pretty folded at the end of the bed for a little texture.
The Company Store has been on my bucket list forever. They have a beautiful, slightly patterned piece I've been calling a coverlet, but I actually just learned a coverlet covers the whole bed down to the floor including the pillows, while what I want is closer to a quilt size. Either way, layering a sheet set, then this on top, folded at the bottom, helps so much with staying cool.
The Pillows
Right now I'm borrowing some gorgeous custom Maxwell Cappella fabric pillows from my mom, I might keep a couple of those in front. I had three Laura Park lemonade print euro pillows in here that were the perfect look, three large 26x26 euros on a king bed is such a good ratio, but those moved to the baby's room.
I want to bring that look back with three new euro pillows in a white and green wavy trim, plus a bolster pillow in a gorgeous Laura Park print to tie it all together. I want to lean more into a green and blue palette overall.
I love a lot of pillows on a bed, it makes it so much easier to actually lounge there.

The Window Treatments
I'm dreaming about TwoPages floral linen drapery, the linen keeps the texture light, which feels right living at the beach. Paired with their Lucite curtain rod. I'd move the rod up and out to frame the windows better, maybe four panels per window since they let in so much light, possibly even ceiling tracking for a hotel-like feel.
My blinds stay closed almost all the time right now because of a bright light my neighbors leave on (my sleep post readers already know how much I love an eye mask for exactly this reason).
The Finishing Touches
The wall over the bed is pretty blank right now. I found these citrus print artworks on Etsy, which feels perfect since I'm in Florida, matted with a gold frame. I'm renting, so I can't tackle the walls themselves yet, maybe removable wallpaper down the road, but I'm not quite a DIY person yet.
And the rug. I'm almost embarrassed to show you mine, it's a cheap Amazon rug that's been through it. I'm dreaming about this Birch Lane jute rug with a blue stripe running through it, it would tie the blue in the bed straight down to the floor and lean into that blue-green palette I keep coming back to.
How I Actually Put This Together
If you're testing out a smaller change, my favorite trick is taking a photo of the space, pulling it into Instagram Stories, and screenshotting the individual pieces you're considering. Hold down on the image on your iPhone, it removes the background automatically, then copy and paste it into your Stories photo and move it around. I did this for the baby's nursery and it was so helpful.
For something bigger, going all in on a full Canva mockup is worth it. I put this off for so long, and once I actually sat down and started pulling pieces together in Canva, it clicked immediately, I could finally see it.
